Become a Leader
VSCC members gain leadership skills by coordinating volunteers, assisting in the management of programs, and leading interpretive programs. Oftentimes VSCC members are the first people with whom park guests interact.
Work Outdoors
You will not be spending time behind a desk in the VSCC. VSCC members will get hands-on training to set them up for success leading programs outdoors, from leading guided hikes to teaching park guests about Virginia wildlife.
Connect with History
The VSCC draws inspiration from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a New Deal Program that constructed Virginia’s first six state parks. Virginia State Parks also manages two Civil War Battlefields and CCC historic sites.
VSCC Interpretive Guide members serve as park interpreters at state parks across Virginia during the summer season. Members receive training in interpretive techniques, learn about stewardship ethics, and help park guests connect to natural and cultural resources.
Members present information and programs to park guests and interact with the community. They work with park volunteer coordinators to increase volunteerism and may help with trail work. Members follow all rules of the park in which they serve, maintain a positive attitude, and strive to provide quality service to their community.
