Rare Species and Natural Communities
The foundation of our work to protect the biodiversity of the Commonwealth revolves around cataloging and gathering geographic information about Virginia's rarest
species and significant natural communities. Here we present a plethora of information including lists of our rare species and natural communities, a detailed classification of our natural
communities, a searchable geo-database, maps that geographically summarize some of this information, and an atlas of our rarest butterfly/moth/damselfly/dragonfly species.
These data products are dynamic. As we learn more, these products are updated so check back occasionally. You never know what new information will come to light!
