Pocahontas State Park master plan to be discussed Oct. 6
A public meeting to discuss the long-range plan for Pocahontas State Park will be Oct. 6, 6 p.m., at the park’s Heritage Center, 10301 State Park Road, Chesterfield.
Staff with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of proposed updates to the park’s master plan.
Each state park has a master plan that guides development. Plans are updated every 10 years.
“Master plans outline the desired future condition for a park when it is fully developed,” said DCR Park Planner Bill Conkle. “We welcome public input in the planning process.”
The draft master plan for Pocahontas State Park proposes a cabin complex, a new park office with welcome center, an environmental educational facility and renovation of many existing structures. Improvements that would enhance hiking, biking and equestrian opportunities are also proposed.
The 8,155-acre park is situated on Swift Creek in Chesterfield County.
Comments about this master plan update will be accepted through Nov. 6. Written comments should be submitted to bill.conkle@dcr.virginia.gov.
