Pocahontas Premieres in 2012

Art for Pocahontas Premieres.Pocahontas Premieres is a series of concerts hosted at Pocahontas State Park's spacious amphitheatre.

Unless otherwise noted, Pocahontas Premieres events take place rain or shine. Some events are free, apart from a $5 parking fee. Please see the description below for details. Otherwise, tickets purchased in advance cover parking and are only $10. Save money and buy a season ticket for only $45. Tickets bought on the day of show are $10 plus the $5 parking fee. Those 10 and under get in free. Call 804-796-4255 for tickets.

The amphitheatre is handicapped-accessible. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food and drinks will be for sale. Beer and wine also are available at some shows courtesy of River City Blues Society (I.D. required).

May 25
An Evening with the Embers. This legendary beach-music band hails from North Carolina. Their hits include I Love Beach Music and Far Away Places, among many others. Gates open at 6 p.m.

May 26
380th Army Band. Join us for an evening of jazz varieties and big-band favorites by the United States 380th Army Reserve Band. Concessions available for purchase. Gates open at 5 p.m.
6 p.m. – free

June 2
Richmond Youth Symphony. Enjoy a free concert by the Richmond Symphony's flagship youth orchestras. Gates open at 6 p.m. Rain date is June 3.
7 p.m. – free

June 8
An Evening with the Tams. The Tams are known for such hits as Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy, What Kind of Fool, I've Been Hurt and Untie Me. Though their music has often been called beach music, it also has elements of smooth soul and rhythm and blues. Their show is fun, fresh and exciting and appeals to audiences of all ages and musical tastes. Food concessions and adult beverages (proper ID required) are available. Gates open at 6 p.m.
7 - 10 p.m. – $

June 22
An Evening with the Band of Oz. This group has been entertaining for more than 40 years and is one of the most successful groups in the Southeast. The eight-member band also now features a full horn section. Food concessions and adult beverages (proper ID required) are available. Gates open at 6 p.m.

July 7
An Evening with Casper. America's premier party band, Casper, is based in Richmond and has a musical repertoire that covers great dance music from many decades and genres, including Motown, rock, funk, swing and country. Visit for more information. Gates open at 5 p.m.
6 - 9 p.m. – $

July 21
Seldom Scene headlines this bluegrass concert. They're an American bluegrass band formed in 1971 in Bethesda, Md. The Scene has long been regarded as one of the most progressive bluegrass bands as well as one of the finest acts in the entire whole genre. Opening act TBA. Gates open at 5 p.m.
6 - 9 p.m. – $

July 29
Richmond Concert Band. Join others in this free concert by the Richmond Concert Band. The Richmond Concert Band, directed by Dr. Mark Poland, is the area's oldest community concert band. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Aug., 4
Hotel California. The original Eagles tribute band, Hotel California prides itself on creating the illusion that you are listening to the real thing. They've shared the stage with the Doobie Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, REO Speedwagon and many others, and have performed in Dubai, Japan, India and throughout North America. Opening the evening's show is No Last Name, performing classic rock from the '60s, '70s and '80s. Food concessions and adult beverages (proper ID required) are available. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Aug. 11
Elvis. Hear your favorite Elvis songs. Sterling Riggs headlines as the king of rock and roll, Vegas-style, complete with flashy rhinestone-studded jumpsuits. Opening act TBA. Gates open at 5 p.m.
6 - 10 p.m. – $

Sept. 8
Richmond Symphony. Bring the whole family and listen to great classical music in the great outdoors. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the music starts at 6 p.m. (Rain date is Sept. 9.)
6 p.m. – free

Sept. 15
Zoso. The band recreates the music, magic and mystery of a Zeppelin concert. If you missed Led Zeppelin live in the '70s or are looking for a great chance to relive the Hammer of the Gods phenomenon, don't miss this show. Visit www.zosoontour.com to learn more. Sweet Justice, performing classic rock from the '60s, '70s and '80s you love, opens the show. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Location and directions: The park is in Chesterfield County. From I-95, take Exit 61 and go west on Route 10 to Route 655 which is Beach Road; or take Exit 67, go north on Route 150 to Route 10; go east to Beach Road.
