SITE DESCRIPTION:
Nestled within the Southern Blue Ridge, the core of this preserve contains spring-fed wetlands and sedge-dominated wet meadows, buffered by
forested uplands containing northern hardwoods of beech, birch and maple. Stewardship of Chestnut Creek Wetlands is primarily focused on restoration
of the plant community of native sedges, grasses, and forbs within the open wetlands. Chestnut Creek Wetlands Natural Area Preserve was acquired using
the voter-approved State Parks and Natural Area bond funds and a grant from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
VISITATION:
This preserve has no public access facilities and may be periodically closed for resource protection and management activities. For more information contact DCR.
