The development of the comprehensive master plan for the new Clinch River State Park, a process managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and required for all state parks by the Code of Virginia has been completed.
In developing this plan, DCR held several public and advisory team meetings, as well as solicited input through a public survey. Feedback from these public engagement opportunities was incorporated into the final plan, which was adopted by the Director of DCR on September 6, 2023.
Located along the Clinch River in Wise and Russell counties, the park is Virginia’s first blueway state park, or recreational water trail system. It is made up of anchor properties connected by multiple canoe and kayak access points along the scenic river.
Once adopted, this will result in a master plan that will guide the long-range plan for infrastructure, amenities, roads, funding and staffing at the park and will be updated every ten years.
