Piedmont Acidic Oak - Hickory Forest – CEGL008475

A mature acidic oak-hickory forest on the ridge flanking the Potomac River at the north end of Great Falls Park in Fairfax County.  A 1999 study by Abrams and Copenheaver (Forest Ecology and Management 124: 275-284) aged some of the white oaks in this stand at more than 250 years.
