Piedmont / Coastal Plain Hemlock - Hardwood Forest – CEGL006474

Nearly pure stand of eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) on rocky, precipitous, north slope along North Branch Chopawamsic Creek at Quantico Marine Base, Stafford County.  Most of the dominant hemlocks were partly defoliated but alive when the photo was taken in September 2004.
