Master plan update for Occoneechee State Park to be discussed Nov. 30
A public meeting to discuss an update to the 2011 Occoneechee State Park master plan will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, 6 p.m., at the Clarksville Community Center, 102 Willow Drive, Clarksville.
Staff from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of the proposed facilities and gather feedback from meeting attendees.
This update proposes a park office welcome center, a 30-site campground, seven cabins, expanded marina slips, renovation of the visitor center, and a Native American village and interpretive area.
“A master plan guides development for each Virginia state park,” said DCR Park Planner Bill Conkle. “Amending a plan is a public process, and public meetings are held when major changes are considered.”
The 2,695-acre property is 1.5 miles east of Clarksville, in Mecklenburg County, on the north shore of Buggs Island Lake, also known as the John H. Kerr Reservoir.
DCR manages 37 Virginia State Parks. For more information about master plans, visit www.dcr.virginia.gov/recreational-planning/masterplans or contact Bill Conkle at bill.conkle@dcr.virginia.gov or 804-786-5492.
