Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. A $308,250 grant was awarded to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation of Northern Virginia to purchase a conservation easement on a working farm that may have otherwise been developed as a subdivision. The project preserved farmland, protected water quality and the viewshed from the historic Welbourne manor house and from Goose Creek.
