Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. Description: |
A $286,000 grant was awarded to The Nature Conservancy to acquire 172 acres of wetlands, agricultural fields, and mature forests. Plans are to restore the wetlands and to keep the forest intact. The project adds to the protection of the Northwest River Preserve and is considered a critical component of this conservation site by the DCR Natural Heritage Division.
