Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Description: | A proposal for the fee-simple acquisition by the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribal Heritage Foundation, Inc. of 156 acres as an addition to the existing 100 acres owned by the Foundation and adjacent to the Cypress Bridge Swamp Natural Area Preserve was awarded $150,000 in VLCF grant funding. The site supports cypress-tupelo swamp forest, provides important buffer to the existing natural area preserve, Nottoway River, and Foundation holdings, and has strong potential for native longleaf pine restoration. This project was withdrawn. |
