Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. | Description: |
This grant request by Stafford County received a grant award of $50,000 for the purchase of a conservation easement on 43 acres of farmland in Stafford County. The Kenneth Jones Farm consists of 13 acres of active farmland (producing hay) and 24 acres of mixed timber forest land. The property has a minimum of 35 foot vegetative buffers along the approximately 2,600 feet of streams and wetlands and is within one quarter of a mile of other conserved property. While the property is in an area that retains large parcels that continue to be used for agricultural purposes, it does have over 500 feet of public road frontage and well-drained soils, which made it subject to significant development pressure.
