Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Description: | Virginia Department of Forestry sought funding to support the partial purchase of an open space easement on 263 acres of forested land near Crozet in western Albemarle County. All of the forestland on the property is classified as having high forest conservation value by VDOF, and two globally rare natural communities occur on site. The property also contains approximately 1,700 linear feet of headwater streams of Powell Creek. The project is highly visible from publicly owned parks in the area and received a grant award of $125,000. |
