Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Once acquired, the site, Dalton's Landing, will serve as the beginning point of an approximate seven-mile water trail on the Staunton River (Roanoke River) and end at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries boat ramp located at Altavista's English Park. The need for public access to the Staunton River has been an identified need in the 2002, 2007, and 2013 Virginia Outdoors Plans. This project received a grant award of $23,313. |
