VLCF Funded Projects
Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Description: |
The DCR Natural Heritage Program seeks to purchase 11 acres in Floyd County that adjoin the 244-acre Chestnut Creek Wetlands Natural Area Preserve. The acquisition will support three rare animal species – two of which are endangered – and a globally rare plant. The property lies within the priority Chestnut Creek Wetlands Conservation Site. Natural Heritage will restore the farmstead area to native vegetation on the edge of the wetlands and remove incompatible development from the edge of the preserve.
