VLCF Funded Projects
Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Description: |
Clarke County Conservation Easement Authority was able to acquire a conservation easement on 60 acres of primarily forested land in Clarke County with more than ½ mile of frontage on Opequon Creek, a designated impaired waterway. The dominant forest stand on the property is oak/hickory. The primary forestlands, which encompass 95% of the property, have now been preserved. Forested riparian buffers of 100 feet in width along Opequon Creek help protect water quality in this important waterway. Historically, the parcel is adjacent to the 3rd Battle of Winchester and the property played a significant role in the Civil War during the Battles of Winchester and Opequon Creek.
