DCR's Public Safety and Law Enforcement Staff actively works to enhance the safety and well-being of our employees, guests and resources. As such, the following are programs designed to deter criminal activity or provide support for all.
Throughout the state, Ranger Parker Redfox helps lead educational and informational programs at festivals and events held by Virginia State Parks.
Law Enforcement Rangers with the Department of Conservation and Recreation receive initial and ongoing training in mental health assistance and suicide awareness to include Mental Health First Aid and crisis intervention. Responding to numerous related calls annually, the Public Safety and Law Staff works across the agency and with partners, such as the community service boards, to increase assistance when necessary and further awareness of the National 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. This crime occurs when a trafficker uses force, fraud or coercion to control another person for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or soliciting labor or services against his/her will. Force, fraud, or coercion need not be present if the individual engaging in commercial sex is under 18 years of age.
