Location of Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park in Virginia

Where

Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park, 6541 Saylers Creek Rd., Rice, VA 23966.
Hillsman House

When

June 18, 2022. 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Overton-Hillsman House has a deep and rich history. On going research has led to new discoveries and we are excited to start sharing them with the general public. Join us as we start that process through a behind the scenes guided tour of the house and its history dating back to the 1780s and continuing all the way through today. This tour will highlight the work of the enslaved individuals on the Hillsman farm and focus primarily on a recent historical discovery connecting our site with Civil Rights leader and prominent 20th century African-American educator, Dr. Robert Russa Moton.

Tours of this historic house will begin promptly at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and each will last approximately one hour in length. We ask that guests come prepared to navigate uneven ground and stairs during this program. Facilities will be available and parking will be a short walk from the starting point.

For additional information and questions, please call the battlefield visitor center at (804) 561-7510.
