Held on the third Monday in January, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service and celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and legacy, as well as encouraging all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

If you love nature and the outdoors, come check out the Friends of Powhatan State Park monthly meetings and gather with like-minded people who are passionate about supporting Virginia State Parks through volunteerism and legislation.

Become a steward of nature while building your local community and connecting with the people near you that share a passion for the outdoors. Meet with rangers at the Mason Neck State Park Visitor Center for a short conservation and to get supplies to clean up the trash that washes onto the shoreline or is left and scattered along the trails and recreational areas.  Please bring water, dress warmly, and expect to get wet and a little dirty.
