Hiring Range: $19.00-$23.00 per hour
District 4 is seeking applicants to fill the District Resource Assistant position. The District Resource Assistant will assist the District Resource Specialist with implementation of resource management projects across State Park District 4, which includes Bear Creek Lake, High Bridge Trail, Holliday Lake, Pocahontas, Powhatan, Sailor’s Creek Battlefield, Staunton River Battlefield, and Twin Lakes State Parks. This position is based at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield, Virginia, and will require daily travel and occasional overnight travel.
This position will assist the District Resource Specialist with a variety of resource management activities including but not limited to long-term land management planning and implementation, monitoring and control of non-native invasive species, preparation of burn units and participating on prescribed burns as crew member/ squad boss, sustainable trail design, construction and maintenance, plant and animal surveys, GIS data collection and data management, and other resource management-related tasks as needed.
The District Resource Assistant will also be responsible for maintenance and organization of tools, equipment, office space and vehicles, participation in special events and/ or disaster relief as needed, and assist with training and supervising district resource technicians, park staff, or volunteers as requested.

Wage/ seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Typical work week for this position is Monday-Friday although some weekend or holiday availability may be required. This position requires working in a variety of outdoor conditions and terrain including heat, cold, rain, humidity, insects, dust, etc. The Registered Technician license will need to be obtained if not currently licensed within 6 months. Wildland firefighter certification will need to be obtained within 12 months. DCR sawyer apprentice certification (or equivalent) or ability to obtain within 6 months. -Physical demands associated with his position include extensive walking, lifting and carrying heavy weighted materials (up to 50 lbs.), bending, stooping, etc.
A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
