DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Hourly Rate: $14.75 per hour
The Interpretive Assistant plans and presents, under the direction of the Chief Ranger, a variety of programs focusing on the natural, environmental, historic, and cultural features of Chippokes State Park and the surrounding region of Virginia. Programs may include campfires, historical tours, hayrides, nature crafts, natural history/environmental education, recreational activities, outdoor skills, canoe tours, hayrides, and evening campfires. Position will maintain a log of visitor participation, produce internal park advertisements and program fliers, and maintain assigned workspace as well as help care for the park animals maintained by park staff.
During the non-summer months, this position will schedule and travel to local schools to present environmental education programs based on current SOL’s as well as program research and development for the coming summer season. This position will educate park visitors on rules and regulations for the purpose of protecting and preserving the park's natural areas and educating park visitors about natural and cultural resources.
This position will also be required to attend overnight training, generally twice a year, and assist in submitting reports and pictures for weekly reports. The Department covers all costs associated with training. This position will post upcoming events on department website, prepare public service announcements, and submit monthly program numbers using established procedures. This position may be required to perform park related duties as needed during emergencies or on a non-recurring basis.

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
