Westmoreland State Park is accepting applications for the Interpretive Ranger position! The Interpretive Ranger assists in accomplishing DCR’s organizational objectives through developing, planning, and delivering place-based learning programs to visitors and groups, by offering, leading, or co-leading special interpretive programs and events at Westmoreland State Park. This position will provide meaningful educational opportunities and experiences for park guests by interpreting the significance of the park’s natural, historical, and cultural resources.
General duties include assisting or leading in operations at the park Discovery Center and within park interpretive areas; care and feeding of the Park's ambassador reptiles; inspection, care, and beekeeping of the Park's Carolinian and Italian honeybees; plan, prepare, design, develop, evaluate, improve, and deliver a wide array of DCR mission-based interpretive, naturalist, and educational programming throughout the park grounds, waters, facilities, historical structures, exhibits, and trails, as well as off-site public outreach, or educational events, to interpret, educate, and connect our visiting public to the natural, environmental, cultural and historical elements of Westmoreland.
This position will also develop, design, and plan workshops, demonstrations, and programming that is rooted in hands-on science and hits curriculum requirements; help us to support locally, and in the community, in environmental education; promote and advertise programming, events, perform roving and point of duty interpretation in the park; assist the Chief Ranger of Visitor Experience with administrative interpretive/educational tasks such as recording monthly interpretive numbers, entering data into the interpretive tracker; answering/returning phone calls; and updating kiosks throughout the park.

Special Requirements
We provide on-the-job training. Weekends and holiday work required. Uniforms are provided; employees must adhere to agency uniform guidelines. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurring basis. Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
