Hiring Rate: $25.00 per hour
Summary of the position:
This position will work under the guidance of the Park Manager to help maintain the overall the park’s Cultural and Historic Resources to include buildings, architectural structures, cultural landscapes, and historic interpretive structures with an emphasis on 18th century log structures. Analyzes the condition and integrity of these cultural and historic resources to determine the scope of work required to effect repairs and maintain. Assists with the preparation of construction/repair plans and overseeing work performed by staff and volunteers on 18th century log structures. Assists the Park Manager and Chief Ranger – Visitor Experience in planning cultural and historic interpretive programs around 18th century resources, training and supervision of assigned areas personnel or volunteers, and inspection and feedback regarding adherence to operational standards. Will assist with the development, planning, and implementation of historical interpretive programs and activities pertaining to 18th Century frontier culture including third person interpretation, historic themed hikes, 18th Century skills demonstrations to include blacksmithing and woodworking, children’s programs, self-guided activities, and lessons/workshops on other historical topics. Creates interpretive programming focused on historical log structure maintenance techniques to include notching techniques, stone foundations, roof shake splitting.

Majority of the work will be completed in an outdoor environment. The candidate will be required to wear 18th century clothing for historical interpretive programming. The candidate must be able to safely use 18th century hand tools and move objects weighting greater than 50 pounds.
Selected candidate(s) will need to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check including a criminal history record check.
Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
