Pocahontas State Park is accepting applications for the Interpretive Assistant position!
We are seeking outgoing, energetic, and responsible individuals to work with a wide variety of guests as part of the park's educational and interpretive programming. This position requires the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and positively interact with the public.
The Interpretive Assistant provides meaningful educational opportunities and experiences for park guests by interpreting the significance of the park's natural, historical, and cultural resources. Primary duties include operating and reconciling the cash register at the gift shop; maintaining interpretive and informational displays; assisting with the daily care and health of exhibit animals; and staffing the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum.
This position will assist with the development, coordination, and facilitation of interpretive programs and educational outreach – to include youth summer programs and special events. These tasks often require corresponding with the general public, public and private schools, scout groups, local organizations, etc. Other duties include maintaining all interpretive supplies to ensure they are in good working order; creating blog posts or interpretive signage; posting photos to Flickr; assisting park guests using excellent customer service; and keeping accurate records for sales, visitation, and programs. This position may be required to perform other duties on a non-recurring basis. On-the-job training will be provided.

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds assisted and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
