Hourly Rate: $16.00 per hour
Smith Mountain Lake State Park is seeking applicants for Chief Beach Ranger positions! This position is responsible for the safe operation of the swimming area, supervising lifeguards, and day-to-day operational decisions including but not limited to: chair rotations, weekly/monthly training, and visitor complaints. Other duties include assisting supervisor with creation of work schedules of lifeguards that maximizes daily coverage of beach area; strictly enforcing policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of patrons; and promptly warning users of existing safety hazards. The Chief Beach Ranger performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR. Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and safety of beach, swimming area, restroom, trash receptacles, and grounds/parking lots. Additional duties include trash/litter pickup, beach cleaning, and cleaning of beach-house restrooms. Successful candidates must obtain Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR/AED training.

Experience is not required, but is preferred. Required certifications must be completed before being allowed to assume duties. We provide on the job training.
A valid Virginia Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.

Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check including a criminal history record check.
Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
