Hiring Range: $20 - $24 hourly
The Natural Heritage Program's work focuses on science-based conservation to protect Virginia's native plant and animal life and the ecosystems upon which it depends. Scientists collect data on natural communities and rare plants and animals, develop land conservation data and online mapping tools, and provide up-to-date information to enable timely conservation decisions. Virginia's Natural Area Preserve System provides long-term protection and outdoor recreation access to some of the state and the planet's most ecologically important lands. Our and our partners’ work focuses on ensuring the conservation of Virginia’s common, rare and endangered species and ecosystems. As a member of NatureServe, DCR's Natural Heritage Program contributes to an understanding and conservation of global biodiversity.
We are currently looking for an Administrative Assistant with responsibilities in handling incoming & outgoing mail processing; updating & maintaining administrative digital and physical grant files; perform a variety of functions to support the Division Business Manager with the administration and tracking of division wide federal and state grants and contracts; Perform a variety of basic accounting functions, financial analysis and auditing functions to discern discrepancies, incompatibilities, or redundancies; maintaining and updating a variety of accurate financial records, logs, charts and other documents; assist with the monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts; assists with data collection and documentation; assist with a variety of specialized office assistance and administrative tasks and perform related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
• extensive experience in a comparable administrative/financial support role
• Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
• Working experience and competency with Microsoft Excel
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ability to prepare, file and reconcile data
• Working experience of Financial Analysis and Reporting
Additional Considerations
• Experience working with state government accounting
• Demonstrated organizational skills and records management
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision, act independently as well as collaboratively
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications
