DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications (Word) for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Powhatan State Park is accepting applications for the Interpretive Ranger position. This position will provide interpretation and educational programming to park guests of all ages and backgrounds. This opportunity is great for individuals who are outgoing, adaptable, organized, creative and responsible. We are also seeking applicants who are efficient while working independently and on a team.
The Interpretive Ranger provides meaningful educational opportunities and experiences for park guests by interpreting the significance of the park's natural, historical, and cultural resources. On a daily basis, the Interpretive Ranger is responsible for planning and conducting interpretive programs either in the park or at outreach events with minimal supervision. Duties include maintaining interpretive displays; creating interpretive and promotional materials; updating interpretive kiosks throughout the park; creating new programs; and providing high quality customer service. Interpreters lead programs with school groups, families, and adult park guests as well community events outside of the park such as festivals, library programs, and school visits. The Interpretive Ranger must be confident leading kayaking tours and will be required to attend park-provided training. Other programs include fire-building, spear-throwing/archery, and guided hikes.

Ability to safely operate state vehicles both within and outside of the park. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license.
Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
Selected candidate(s) will need to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
