Occoneechee State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.
Job Summary:
The ideal candidate is someone who can work without direct supervision, prioritize tasks, and positively interact with the public to perform the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate state park facilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs general grounds care such as mowing, string trimming, litter clean up, brush clearing.
- Performs regular facility maintenance such as light construction and cleaning
- Performs trail maintenance and construction, and any other park-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of hand and power tools required.
- General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools
- Knowledge and the use of various cleaning supplies/equipment.
- Must have ability to perform manual labor and lift supplies up to 80 pounds.
- Follow directions, work unsupervised, and work well with staff in team environment.
- Must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays, including evening shifts.
- Must be 18 years or older
Additional Considerations:
- Small engine repair, equipment operation, carpentry and building trades experience preferred.
- Experience, education and/or training in one or more of the following areas: public relations, housekeeping, maintenance of building, grounds and equipment
Special Instructions:

- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Will be required to wear a uniform. Park provides shirts and hat. Employee is responsible for pants and appropriate shoes.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
