Smith Mountain Lake State Park is accepting applications for an Office Ranger position.
Job Summary:
This position will assist in supervision and training of wage staff for the front desk & Contact Station operations. Will provide excellent customer service, and assist the the Office Manager on daily office operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cash management, preparing deposits and submitting appropriate paperwork daily during the season. Document discrepancies
- Date entry into EVA (Electronic Virginia) for procurement
- Prepare and schedule events
- In the Office Manager’s absence, track and enter hours worked, assist with hiring and submitting documentation.
- Prepare quarterly water reports
- Provide front desk coverage and assist with contact station operations when needed
- Work independently on assigned office tasks as assigned
- Sets up Merchandise PLU’s and inventory, completes various reports and assists with record management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 17 years or older.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, One Drive).
- Must provide excellent customer service skills and be willing to work in a team environment.
- Experience in or familiar with various office equipment such as computer, register, copy machine, scanner.
- Willingness to learn the job
- Must be able to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.
Additional Considerations:
- Experience in an office setting, strong written communication skills.
- Experience in multi-tasking & strong computer skills.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. This is a year-round, part-time position, with limited hours November through February. All employees are required to attend several days of training prior to the start of the summer season.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
