The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.

Natural Tunnel State Park is accepting applications for Maintenance Ranger positions.

Job Summary:

Performs park maintenance duties that provide for a quality and safe recreational experience for state park guest. Conducts ground care, facility maintenance, equipment maintenance and repairs, and light construction tasks.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Cleaning of park facilities such as restrooms, picnic shelters, buildings and other tasks necessary to operate facilities according to the established procedures of the Virginia Division of State Parks.
Applies preventative maintenance procedures in daily tasks.
Answers questions of park guests and provides directions and information to park guests when asked.
Acts as a front line customer service representative for the park site.
May be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurrent basis.
Successful candidate must provide own uniforms and be willing to work shift work, weekends, nights, and holidays. Most positions start in May and end in October.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older.
General knowledge and experience of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies.
Must have the ability to organize and perform routine cleaning and maintenance functions, and provide exceptional customer service.
Must be able to work outside in varying conditions and be able to physically operate equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, UTV’s and other assigned tools.

Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
