Natural Tunnel State Park is accepting applications for Housekeeping Ranger positions.
Job Summary:
The primary focus of the housekeeping ranger includes proper and prompt cleaning of cabins, restrooms, campground bathhouses and other park structures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cleaning 14 overnight housekeeping cabins, 4 Yurts overnight lodging facilities at the Cove Ridge Center, campground bath houses, and park restrooms.
- Cabin cleaning includes thoroughly cleaning interior rooms such as bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas, kitchen, windows, and appliances.
- Exterior cleaning includes, inventory, and organization of linen/laundry building and cleaning supply inventory.
- Light grounds care maintenance in landscaped beds.
- Appropriate training to state parks standards will be provided.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and as safety practices are related to work site.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, strong verbal and written communication skills are needed.
- Have the ability to work on your own.
- Working knowledge in operation of manual and power cleaning equipment.
- Have a neat and professional appearance.
- Must be able to follow oral instructions, to perform a variety of cleaning tasks and to tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods of time to perform manual labor in a safe manner.
- Ability to handle issues arising in the use of the facility by visitors.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- May be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurrent basis.
- Must be willing to work weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays and be able to provide own uniforms.
Additional Considerations:
- Familiarity with Red Cross CPR/First Aid procedures is desirable.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
