The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.
Widewater State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.
Job Summary:
Will perform general grounds care such as mowing, string trimming, litter clean up, and brush clearing; regular facility maintenance, such as light construction and cleaning; trail maintenance and construction; and any other park-related duties as assigned to provide the best possible guest experience.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary duties include trash removal, facility cleaning, and grounds maintenance.
- Additional duties include trail maintenance and corridor clearing, light construction such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, etc., maintenance and repair of small engine equipment, informing guests about the park and its rules, and other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
- Seasonal term is from April 1, 2026, through September 30, 2026, with estimated hours of 32 hrs per week
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Possess a valid Driver’s License,
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Additional Considerations:
- Previous experience with landscaping tasks, including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing.
- Previous experience with the trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.
Special Instructions:

- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.

- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum.
