Wilderness Road State Park is accepting applications for a Contact Ranger position.
Job Summary:
Wilderness Road State Park, located in Ewing, VA, is currently accepting applications for the Contact Ranger position. Seeking a reliable, self-motivated, and outgoing individual to manage our contact station.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate cash register and collect fees for entrance and merchandise.
- Provide accurate visitor information regarding events, trails, programs & facilities.
- Answer telephone and radio communications.
- Assist with stocking, organizing, and inventorying merchandise.
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces.
- Must work weekends, holidays and shift work.
- Light cleaning duties to include bathrooms at the Visitor Center.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate clearly with staff and guests.
- Ability to complete daily register transactions and reconcile cash.
- Ability to accurately count money and follow cash-handling procedures.
Additional Considerations:
- Prior experience with customer service, and retail or POS systems preferred, but not required.
- General knowledge of park operations and local attractions or prior experience in a park setting or related field is desirable but not required.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
