Hunts to be held in State Natural Area Preserves
(RICHMOND, Va.) - Applications are being accepted for a lottery deer hunt at Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve in Northampton County. Applications are also being accepted for a lottery waterfowl hunt at Dameron Marsh and Hughlett Point natural area preserves in Northumberland County. The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation manages these hunts.
Savage Neck Dunes will hold muzzleloader hunts from Nov. 1 until Nov. 9. Shotgun or muzzleloader hunts will be held from Nov. 15 until Dec. 21. Applications are due by Oct. 1 for these hunts.
Waterfowl hunts at Dameron Marsh and Hughlett Point will be on Mondays beginning with the start of the general duck season in November. Hunt days are Nov. 22 and 29; Dec. 13, 20 and 27; and Jan. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Applications are due by Oct. 8.
A $5 non-refundable application fee must be submitted for each hunt. Anyone 16 years or older may apply for a chance to participate in the hunts. Hunters chosen must show proof of completion of a hunter safety education course and pay a $10 per day permit fee. Each lottery entry requires a separate application.
