MONTROSS - The Civil War 150 History Mobile will visit Westmoreland State Park as part of its four-year tour of Virginia. The mobile, an expandable 53-foot trailer containing a high-tech immersive experience detailing Virginia's Civil War history, will be at the park's visitor center July 3- 5. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 3 and 4 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 5. There is no admission fee for the mobile. The park charges a $4 per day parking fee.
The Civil War 150 History Mobile details Virginia's place in history throughout the 1860s. The exhibit covers Virginia's Civil War from the viewpoints of soldiers, civilians and slaves. Through its displays and interactive exhibits, visitors can read letters between soldiers and their families, hear conversations from those hoping to flee to freedom, watch a film about Virginia's decision to secede and learn about the war's impacts.
The history mobile exhibit will also include a living history campsite, live Civil War era music, storytelling and guest speakers.
The Civil War 150 History Mobile was created through a partnership between the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission, the Virginia Historical Society and the Fredericksburg-Spotsylvania National Battlefields Park. It is also supported by the Virginia Tourism Corp. and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
Virginia State Parks will host the mobile at several parks through 2015. It will be on tour in Northern Virginia this fall with a stop at Leesylvania State Park in Prince William County starting Oct. 4.
