Chippokes Plantation State Park master plan to be presented Sept. 19
RICHMOND — A public meeting to discuss long-range planning for Chippokes Plantation State Park will be Sept. 19, 6 p.m., at the park’s Jones-Stewart Mansion, 695 Chippokes Park Road, Surry.
Staff with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of proposed updates to the park’s master plan.
Each state park has a master plan that guides development. Plans are updated every 10 years.
“Master plans outline the desired future condition for a park when it is fully developed,” said DCR Park Planner Bill Conkle. “We welcome public input in the planning process.”
The draft master plan for Chippokes Plantation State Park proposes upgrades to the campground, construction of a sprayground and updated bathhouse, renovation of historic structures, renovated conference shelter, and improvements to walkways and gardens at the Jones-Stewart Mansion.
The 1,944-acre park is situated on the James River in Surry County.
Comments about this master plan update will be accepted through Oct. 19. Written comments should be submitted to bill.conkle@dcr.virginia.gov.
