False Cape State Park master plan to be presented Sept. 25
RICHMOND — A public meeting to discuss long-range planning for False Cape State Park will be Sept. 25, 6 p.m., at the First Landing State Park Trail Center, 2500 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach.
Staff with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of proposed updates to the park master plan.
Each state park has a master plan that guides development. Plans are updated every 10 years.
“Master plans outline the desired future condition for a park when it is fully developed,” said DCR Park Planner Bill Conkle. “We welcome public input in the planning process.”
The draft master plan for False Cape State Park proposes three small shelters, two vault toilets, road upgrades and a seven-site campground at Barbour Hill Beach. Developments are minimal because of expected impacts from sea-level rise and storm surge.
The 3,844-acre park is situated on the Atlantic Ocean and Back Bay in Virginia Beach.
Comments about this master plan update will be accepted through Oct. 25. Written comments should be submitted to bill.conkle@dcr.virginia.gov.
