Celebrate the 12th anniversary of National Kids to Parks Day at Widewater! Held every third Saturday in May, this event strives to encourage more children and their families to visit their local parks. This year at Widewater join rangers for multiple activities throughout the day!
9 am to 11 am - Fishing along Long Pond
Try your hand at fishing at our Kids Fishing Area along Long Pond. A ranger will be there to show you how to tie and bait a hook, cast out a line, and reel in a big catch! Rods, reels, and bait will be provided by the park. Loaned equipment is first come, first serve.
12 pm - 1 pm - Tree ID Hike
Have you ever wanted to learn how to identify the trees you see everywhere? Using the different characteristics of trees along Long Pond Trail, rangers will show you what makes each tree unique and how you can identify them. This hike will be approximately 1 mile long.
2 pm - 4 pm - Traditional Native Crafting
Learn from rangers some of the traditional crafts of tribes found along the rivers and creeks in Virginia and be sure to visit the recreated Patawomeck yehakin at Widewater. Crafts will include making cordage from natural materials and making fishing nets.
