Bear Creek Lake is an ideal base camp for exploring other parks in the central Piedmont of Virginia. Four other Virginia State Parks are less than an hour's drive from here.

If you are interested in history, Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, a scene of desperation during the final days of the American Civil War, is just a 40 minute drive away. Or if trails are more to your interest, you can experience the majesty of High Bridge Trail State Park, a 31-mile long rail-to-trails pathway, and features the 2,422 foot long High Bridge, which can be accessed from several different parking areas, also within 40 minutes of Bear Creek Lake.

Those two state parks, along with Twin Lakes and Holliday Lake State Parks, fit perfectly as a daytime outing during your overnight visit to Bear Creek Lake. James River or Powhatan State Parks can provide a river experience. Contact the individual parks directly for information on their activities and event fees. Your valid Bear Creek Lake parking pass will be honored when you visit any other Virginia State Park. Other natural or cultural sites, such as Crabtree Falls and Monticello, are just two of many day destinations to be enjoyed while calling Bear Creek Lake your home away from home.
