Most of us are familiar with two of the terms for periods of activity in plants and animals: nocturnal and diurnal. Nocturnal animals like bats are active at night, and diurnal animals like humans are active during the daytime, but there’s another major category for the activity for animals. Drawn from the Latin word for “twilight”, crepuscular is a term for animals that are active primarily at dawn and dusk.
Join a ranger on sunset hike along Turkey Trail to discover more about the crepuscular inhabitants of Powhatan State Park. Participants will alternate between active walking and standing stationary while quietly listening and observing our surroundings. For your comfort, bring water, bug spray, binoculars, and a flashlight. Please dress appropriately for the weather, but closed-toe footwear is required. Hike begins promptly at 6:30 p.m.
This activity may be cancelled if threat of inclement weather.
