Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 15 through April 30, per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Just leaving a long winter's hibernation? Why not join Carl Tugend, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources' (DWR) Bear Project Lead, as he discusses his work with black bears in the state. We will go over a brief history of black bears, their habitat, diet, and behaviors, and how DWR manages bear populations and handles human-bear conflicts.

This is a free event, open to the public. The park's visitor center will be open late to host the talk; to attend, head to the visitor center's cafe area, or ask at the front counter for the Winter Speaker Series talk.
