March 7, 2023. 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
When people think of fire on park lands scenes of catastrophic destruction often come to mind.
This is not always the case. Virginia State Parks manages an active prescribed fire program that
routinely burns specific areas to promote ecological health. If this sounds interesting and you
would like to learn more, come hear Al Cire speak on his work with Virginia State Parks.
Al Cire currently serves as the Resource Specialist for the Shenandoah Valley District of Virginia
State Parks. He started his career at Smith Mountain Lake State Park as Chief Ranger in 1988.
District Resource Specialists manage prescribed burns, invasive species control, and trail
development.
This is a free event, open to the public. The park's visitor center will be open late to host the talk; to attend, head to the visitor center's cafe area, or ask at the front counter for the Winter Speaker Series talk.
