Celebrate the anniversary of Virginia State Parks with a scenic guided hike along the New River Trail.

This easy 3 mile hike will take visitors outside one of the oldest mining operations in North America, the Austinville lead mines. You’ll walk through the Austinville Tunnel and along the site of the former New Jersey Zinc Company's mining operation. You'll have the opportunity to learn about the historical significance of mining operations along the New River as you walk to the Ivanhoe Trestle that crosses the New River.

Austinville and the surrounding area has changed quite a lot over the years. Evidence of the transformation can be found all around if you know where to look. It is recommended to wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.
