Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 15 through April 30, per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Become a prospector as we follow in the footsteps of "Stampmill Sam". We'll visit the Goodwin Gold Mine and discover how gold was mined in Virginia in the late 1800's. Then we'll pan for gold on the shores of the quartz laden creek nearby. Please wear sturdy shoes that can get wet and be prepared for a short hike to the mine site.

Pre-registration required. Space is limited to the first 12 confirmed registrations.
$2 each or $6 per family.
