Sept. 23, 2023. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

On the 30th Anniversary of National Public Lands Day, the staff of Fairy Stone State Park invite you to discover the land that will become the future Mayo River State Park. The park is located in southwestern Henry County near the Virginia-North Carolina border. The commonwealth has acquired a total of 637 acres of land between the North Mayo River and the South Mayo River, which converge just south of the state line in North Carolina.

The new addition to the Virginia State Parks system is intended to complement the park built around the Mayo River in North Carolina, also called Mayo River State Park. Join a ranger to discover some interesting facts about local wildlife, the history of the Native Americans who inhabited the area, and about the exploration of the area by William Byrd.

To reach the parking lot from Route 58, turn onto the Horsepasture-Price Road at The Old Country Store and travel 3.6 miles to Moore's Mill Road. Turn right on Moore's Mill and travel 4.4 miles to Pratt Road. Turn left on Pratt Road and travel 0.5 miles to the trailhead parking lot. The address is 500 Pratt Road, Spencer, VA 24165. The parking lot is located at the end of a cul-de-sac on your right.
