Because of its wide range of habitats that support many bird species, Bear Creek Lake State Park is the perfect place to come birding and participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count. Attached is a checklist guide of birds that are common here in the park and central Virginia. We invite you to come visit Bear Creek Lake State Park and do some birdwatching on your own or with some family and friends. Below is some more info about this fun annual event:

"Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds. Over these four days we invite people to spend time in their favorite places watching and counting as many birds as they can find and reporting them to us. These observations help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations." -Great Backyard Bird Count
