When
May 2, 2024. 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
The 250-acre Hoover Mountain Bike Area is located on a reclaimed 20th century mine site. The earth is colored by iron oxide deposits making it resemble a desert canyon rather than familiar Appalachian trails. There are multiple water bar jumps making for a fast, 'flowy' ride. These meet-ups are entirely weather dependent. In cases of inclement weather or unsuitable trail conditions it will be cancelled. Please note there is a year-round $7 parking fee.
Group Ride: The MTB meet-up will meet at the Hoover Mountain Bike Parking Area. Ride starts at 5:30 p.m. Rides will be at a group pace. Setting out on trails with other mountain bikers will ultimately help everyone improve upon their own technique and endurance, but it’s important to know your own skill level. These trails are considered intermediate. Rides will be in two-mile+ circuits along the trail so participants can easily drop in and out of the meet-up at any time.
Etiquette: Be sure to leave no trace, give uphill riders the right of way, ride within your limits, and anticipate other trail users as you ride around corners.
Maintain Your Bike: Inspect your equipment before you ride. Check your tires for proper air pressure. Be sure your brakes are in working order. Lubricate and check the chain for broken links or rust. Carry a flat repair kit (tube, pump, tire levers) and a multi-tool.
Bring Appropriate Gear: Make sure you’re dressing for the weather. Bring appropriate layers. Bring snacks, fuel and plenty of water. Always wear a helmet (required) and appropriate safety gear.
Meet-up Dates:
5/2, 5/9, 5/23, 6/6, 6/20, 7/25, 8/1, 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/26, 10/10
