Where

Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
Shelter 1

When

April 13, 2024. 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Join Virginia Master Naturalist and herpetology expert, Ty Smith, as we discover the hidden wonders of these temporary seasonal ponds. We'll find out what makes them so special, and why they are essential to the survival of many wildlife populations. We’ll take a short walk through the woods to visit one of our pools where we will search for a variety of tiny creatures. The vernal pool is located off the trail, so we will be walking through brambles and muddy areas. Please wear closed-toed shoes and long pants to protect your feet and legs.

To register, email powhatan@dcr.virginia.gov or call (804) 598-7148. Space is limited! Due to the sensitive nature of this habitat registration is required, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Please meet at Shelter #1 which is near the playground parking lot.

This program is conducted in accordance with Virginia Law; park staff and volunteers possess the proper permits and training to collect and briefly handle wildlife.
