National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands and works to connect people to public lands in their community, inspire environmental stewardship, and encourage use of public lands for education, recreation, and general health. Head on over to Smith Mountain Lake State Park and become a steward of this amazing landscape. You'll get to enjoy a hike along our newest trail, through forested terrain, following in the footsteps of our early settlers as you assist the ranger with a trail clean-up. Our project follows Five Oaks Trail, culminating near the ruins of an 1800's plantation house. We'll provide all tools and materials needed. You bring a sense of adventure and fun.
Wear closed toed shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather, and bring water. Some areas are out of the tree cover so you might want sunscreen, a hat, and possibly insect repellent. There is free parking for this day. Click HERE for more information on becoming a Virginia State Park volunteer.
